Air traffic at Beirut airport not affected by global outage, director assures

Rafic Hariri International Airport Director Fadi al-Hassan said on Friday that air traffic at the Beirut airport was not affected by the global IT outage, as the malfunctioning of some Microsoft services paralyzed many businesses around the world.

"The global technical outage did not affect air traffic at Beirut's Rafic Hariri International Airport," Hassan told the state-run National News Agency (NNA). However, he said the outage impacted "the check-in and reservation systems for a while ... but things have returned to normal and air traffic is not affected."

The general manager of the public telephone company Ogero, Imad Kreidieh, said on the X (formerly Twitter), that he was following the affair "knowing that no phenomenon has been reported so far."

The announcements come as tech giant Microsoft said Friday it was taking "mitigation actions" after an outage impacted multiple businesses in multiple countries. Microsoft said it remains "committed to addressing this event with the highest priority and urgency while continuing to address the ongoing impact on the remaining Microsoft 365 applications that are in a degraded state."
